May Workbench Roundup

With no looming GM deadline until July, I decided to work on whatever struck my fancy this month. Here’s my scatterbrained results.

img_20180504_122834

A Warlord Panhard 178 to replace my existing one from Army Group North. The AGN one has an integrated base that I was never quite pleased with.

img_20180505_084951

A Jump Off Point, Force Morale Trackers and Patrol Markers for my Early War French.

img_20180531_075753

Some plastic canoes from a child’s play set for my FIW Sharp Practice games at Historicon.

img_20180531_085010

An Abomination from the old Carnevale line.

img_20180531_153123

A scratch-built Woodland Indian smoking rack, again for my Historicon games.

Generic hedge gate from Warbases.

I think the small dinosaur is either from Iron Wind or Reaper and the Owlbear is from Otherworld.

img_20180531_153620

Late war German Panzerschreck team from Warlord.

img_20180531_153824

Some late war German NCOs from Victory Force and Warlord.

An early war MG34 team from Warlord.

img_20180531_154240

Medusa from Otherworld, a Celtic Druid from Gorgon Studios and a zombie-thingy from maybe Reaper(?).

Artizan pulp Russians.

A murder of crows from Reaper – my first piece for Legends of the High Seas.

Early War French – Completed

Lately I’ve been trying to finish up my WWII platoons that are in a partially finished state, so I started with some low hanging fruit by completing my Early War French. By “completed” I mean that I have no unpainted French left in the house. I’d like to add in some motorcycles now that they are available, but I digress. Here’s a photo dump.

Historicon 2017 Purchases I – Sarissa Waco Glider

As in my previous post where I’ve told myself that after every convention I’m going to write a report, I also promise myself that I’m going to finish everything I acquired before I move on to something else. This too has never happened, however I’m going to try very hard to make that happen this time. Considering my relative minimum purchases, this should be an achievable goal.

Here’s the first build/paint from my Historicon haul – the 28mm Waco Glider from Sarissa Precision. This was a pretty straight forward build, although I should have paid attention to lessons from the past and scored some of the paper parts before folding them. I added some card stock in a few locations to cover up some of the slots and tabs.

The paint job consisted of an overall color of olive drab and hand painted invasion stripes on the wings and rear fuselage. The orders for pre-Overlord invasion stripes didn’t come to troop carrying units until June 3rd, so needless to say many of these jobs were rushed. I’ve seen photographs of varying quality of these, so I marked mine out and painted them by hand to give the effect of an “average” job. Decals are from my stash.

Another Pulpy Dump

Sounds like something that happens after eating pulled pork. Anyway, this should be the last one of these generic posts for the year as I have a “legitimate” project that I’ve started. Enjoy.

Status Markers

A while ago I purchased these 30mm outside diameter/25mm inside diameter colored plastic rings to use for status markers for 28mm miniatures. The majority of my singly based 28mm miniatures are on round 25mm bases with steel bottoms. With this in mind I took 30mm bases, attached self adhesive magnetic sheet to the tops, and then glued the rings on. This ended up working well as the magnetic attraction is enough that the markers won’t fall off when the minis are moved, yet they are still easy to disconnect without fouling up the basing. Hopefully I’ll never need more than ten as I cannot recall where I purchased them…
